Afghan President Heads To New York For 9/11 Ceremonies
Just days after surviving an assassination attempt, Afghan President Hamid Karzai is on his way to New York City to mark the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
Karzai left Sunday for his second trip to New York, where he plans to address the United Nations General Assembly and visit the World Trade Center site to express condolences to the American people.
During his five-day visit Karzai will also meet with President George Bush to discuss the U.S. military campaign against members of Al Qaeda and the Taliban still on the loose, as well as international efforts to rebuild Afghanistan.
Karzai narrowly escaped an assassination attempt last Thursday when a gunman opened fire on his car in Kandahar. His American bodyguards shot and killed the gunman.
